  • Total Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients

Scale

For the Sloppy Joe Filling:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey for a lighter option)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Garlic Bread:

  • 6 sandwich buns or thick slices of crusty bread
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Pinch of salt

For the Cheese Topping:

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Optional Garnishes:

  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Red pepper flakes for heat

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Sloppy Joe Filling

  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  2. Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, and chili powder (if using). Stir well to combine.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer the mixture over low heat for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and flavorful.

Step 2: Make the Garlic Butter

  1. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, garlic powder, and a pinch of salt until well combined.

Step 3: Assemble the Garlic Bread

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Spread the garlic butter evenly over the inside halves of the sandwich buns or the top side of each bread slice.
  3. Place the buns or bread on a baking sheet, buttered side up. Toast in the oven for 5-7 minutes until lightly golden and fragrant.

Step 4: Build the Cheesy Garlic Bread Sloppy Joes

  1. Spoon the Sloppy Joe filling generously onto the bottom half of each bun or bread slice.
  2. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the filling.
  3. Return the assembled sandwiches to the oven for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 5: Garnish and Serve

  1. Remove the sandwiches from the oven and sprinkle with chopped parsley and red pepper flakes if desired.
  2. Serve immediately and enjoy!
