For the garlic bread base:

Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Garlic Butter
- In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, garlic powder, dried parsley (or Italian seasoning), and salt. Mix until well combined and smooth.
Step 2: Prepare the Bread
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
- Slice the loaf of bread lengthwise into two halves. Place the halves cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
Step 3: Assemble the Garlic Bread
- Spread an even layer of the prepared garlic butter over each bread half, ensuring it covers the entire surface.
- Spread the basil pesto over the garlic butter, using the back of a spoon to distribute it evenly.
Step 4: Add the Cheese
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese evenly over both halves of the bread. If you’re using cheddar cheese, add it on top for an extra cheesy kick.
Step 5: Bake the Bread
- Place the bread in the preheated oven and bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.
- For an extra crispy, golden top, switch to the broiler setting for the last 1–2 minutes. Keep a close eye on it to prevent burning.
Step 6: Garnish and Serve
- Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool for 2–3 minutes. Sprinkle with fresh basil leaves, red pepper flakes, or extra Parmesan, if desired.
- Slice the bread into individual pieces and serve warm.
