For the Dough
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast

- 1 tsp salt
- ¾ cup warm water (110°F)
- 2 tbsp olive oil

- 1 cup canned crushed tomatoes
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Toppings
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 12–15 slices of pepperoni (or your preferred topping)
- Optional: sliced bell peppers, olives, mushrooms, or fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
Step 1: Make the Dough
- Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
- Mix the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and olive oil, stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Let the Dough Rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Step 2: Prepare the Sauce
- Combine the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl. Mix well and set aside.
Step 3: Shape the Dough
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and line a large baking sheet or pizza stone with parchment paper.
- Roll out the dough into a large circle, about 12 inches in diameter. Use a sharp knife or kitchen scissors to trim the edges into a heart shape. Save any scraps to make mini heart-shaped breadsticks.
Step 4: Assemble the Pizza
- Spread a thin, even layer of sauce over the heart-shaped dough, leaving about ½ inch around the edges for the crust.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce.
- Add your toppings, such as pepperoni or vegetables, arranging them creatively to enhance the heart shape.
Step 5: Bake the Pizza
- Transfer the pizza to the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for 2-3 minutes before slicing.
