Ingredients
Scale
For the Egg-In-A-Hole Toast
- 2 slices of bread (white, whole wheat, sourdough, or brioche)
- 2 eggs
- 1 tablespoon butter (or olive oil)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
For the Sandwich Fillings
- 2 slices of cheese (cheddar, American, Swiss, or mozzarella)
- 2 strips of cooked bacon (or sausage patty/ham)
- ½ avocado, sliced (optional)
- 1 slice of tomato (optional)
- ½ teaspoon hot sauce or ketchup (optional, for added flavor)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Bread
- Use a round cookie cutter, glass, or biscuit cutter to cut a hole (about 2 inches wide) in the center of one slice of bread. Keep the cut-out piece for extra toasting!
Step 2: Cook the Egg-In-A-Hole
- Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Place the hole-cut slice of bread in the pan. Crack 1 egg directly into the hole and season with salt and pepper.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes, until the egg begins to set. Flip gently using a spatula and cook for another 1-2 minutes for a soft yolk or longer for a firm yolk.
- Toast the second slice of bread in the pan until golden brown.
Step 3: Assemble the Sandwich
- Place one slice of cheese on the toasted bread slice.
- Add cooked bacon (or sausage), avocado slices, and tomato.
- Gently place the egg-in-a-hole toast on top.
- Add the second cheese slice and close the sandwich.
Step 4: Final Toasting
- Place the whole sandwich back in the skillet for 30-60 seconds per side, allowing the cheese to melt and the bread to crisp up.
- Remove from heat, slice in half, and serve immediately!
