Garlic Herb Butter

  • Author: Amelia
  • Total Time: 1 hour and 10 minutes
  • Yield: 1 cup (8 ounces) of Garlic Herb Butter 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 4 garlic cloves, finely minced or grated
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

Optional Additions

  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest (for brightness)
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (for a hint of spice)
  • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese (for a savory, cheesy twist)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients

Start by softening the butter. Leave it at room temperature for about 30 minutes or until it’s soft and pliable but not melted. Finely mince or grate the garlic to ensure it’s evenly distributed throughout the butter. Chop all your herbs finely so their flavors infuse the butter evenly without large chunks.

Step 2: Combine the Ingredients

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, add the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped herbs (parsley, chives, thyme, and rosemary), salt, and black pepper. If you’re using optional ingredients like lemon zest, red pepper flakes, or Parmesan cheese, add them now. Use a fork or spatula to thoroughly mix everything together until well combined. The mixture should be creamy, with the herbs and garlic evenly distributed.

Step 3: Shape the Butter

Once the ingredients are mixed, you can shape the Garlic Herb Butter in one of three ways:

  1. Butter Log: Place the mixture onto a piece of parchment paper or plastic wrap. Roll it into a log shape, twisting the ends to seal. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to firm up.
  2. Portion Cups: Scoop the butter into small ramekins or silicone molds for individual servings.
  3. Jar Storage: Transfer the butter to an airtight container or jar for easy scooping.

Step 4: Chill and Store

Refrigerate the butter for at least 1 hour before using to allow the flavors to meld and the butter to firm up. For longer storage, place the butter in the freezer—it will keep for up to 3 months.

Step 5: Use and Enjoy

Once chilled, slice or scoop the butter as needed. Use it as a flavorful topping, spread, or cooking ingredient to enhance your dishes.
