  • Author: Amelia
  • Total Time: 30-35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Honey Mustard Chicken

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs (about 1.5 pounds)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for searing, if using stovetop method)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Honey Mustard Sauce

  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons whole grain mustard (optional, for texture)
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (for creaminess, optional)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder or 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional, for color and mild smokiness)
  • Fresh parsley or chives, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Honey Mustard Sauce

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the Dijon mustard, honey, whole grain mustard, mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar or lemon juice, garlic powder, and paprika. Whisk until smooth and well-combined.
  2. Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning as needed. Add more honey if you prefer a sweeter sauce, or more Dijon mustard for extra tang. Set aside half of the sauce for serving, and reserve the other half for cooking the chicken.

Step 2: Prepare the Chicken

  1. Pat the chicken breasts or thighs dry with paper towels, then season both sides with salt and black pepper.
  2. If you’re marinating the chicken, place it in a zip-top bag or a shallow dish and pour half of the honey mustard sauce over it, turning to coat. Let it marinate in the refrigerator for 15-30 minutes for enhanced flavor (optional but recommended).

Step 3: Cook the Chicken

Stovetop Method

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the chicken breasts or thighs to the skillet and cook for 5-6 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through (the internal temperature should reach 165°F).
  3. Reduce the heat to low, add half of the honey mustard sauce, and let it simmer for an additional 1-2 minutes, spooning the sauce over the chicken to coat it well.

Oven-Baked Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Place the seasoned or marinated chicken in a baking dish, pour half of the honey mustard sauce over it, and cover the dish with aluminum foil.
  3. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. For extra caramelization, remove the foil during the last 5 minutes of baking.

Grilled Method

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grates.
  2. Place the chicken on the grill and cook for 6-8 minutes per side, basting with the honey mustard sauce as it cooks.
  3. Grill until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F and has beautiful grill marks.

Step 4: Serve and Garnish

  1. Drizzle the remaining honey mustard sauce over the cooked chicken for extra flavor.
  2. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley or chives for a pop of color.
  3. Serve hot and enjoy your delicious Honey Mustard Chicken!
