Hot Honey Baked Chicken Breasts

  • Author: Amelia
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 6 oz each)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the Hot Honey Glaze:

  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)

Optional Garnishes:

  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Lemon wedges for squeezing over the chicken

Instructions

1. Prepare the Chicken

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This step ensures the chicken browns beautifully in the oven. Place the chicken breasts in a shallow baking dish or on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

2. Season the Chicken

Rub the chicken breasts with olive oil, ensuring they’re evenly coated. In a small bowl, mix together the garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Sprinkle the spice mixture over both sides of the chicken breasts, rubbing it in gently to adhere.

3. Bake the Chicken

Place the seasoned chicken in the oven and bake for 20 minutes.

4. Prepare the Hot Honey Glaze

While the chicken bakes, make the hot honey glaze. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the honey, red pepper flakes, apple cider vinegar, and cayenne pepper (if using). Heat the mixture, stirring occasionally, for 3–4 minutes, or until the honey is slightly runny and the flavors meld. Remove from heat and set aside.

5. Glaze the Chicken

After 20 minutes of baking, remove the chicken from the oven. Brush the hot honey glaze generously over the tops of the chicken breasts. Return the chicken to the oven and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

6. Broil for Extra Caramelization (Optional)

For a sticky, caramelized finish, switch the oven to broil for the last 2–3 minutes of cooking. Keep a close eye on the chicken to prevent burning.

7. Rest and Serve

Remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve with lemon wedges for a bright, tangy finish.
