Ingredients
Scale
For the salmon:
- 4 salmon fillets (about 6 ounces each, skin-on or skinless)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
For the maple glaze:
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional, for added depth)
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a touch of heat)
Optional garnishes:
- Chopped fresh parsley
- Lemon wedges
- Toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Salmon
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
- Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. This helps the glaze adhere better. Season both sides lightly with salt and pepper.
Step 2: Make the Maple Glaze
- In a small bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, soy sauce, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, smoked paprika (if using), and red pepper flakes (if using). This creates a balanced glaze with sweetness, saltiness, tang, and spice.
Step 3: Sear the Salmon
- Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. When the oil is hot, place the salmon fillets skin-side up in the skillet. Sear for 2–3 minutes until the top forms a golden crust.
- Flip the salmon fillets so the skin side is down, and cook for another 2 minutes.
Step 4: Apply the Glaze
- Remove the skillet from heat. Pour the maple glaze evenly over the salmon fillets, ensuring they’re well-coated. If using a baking sheet, transfer the salmon to the prepared sheet and pour the glaze on top.
Step 5: Roast the Salmon
- Transfer the skillet or baking sheet to the preheated oven. Roast for 8–10 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillets, until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. The internal temperature should reach 145°F (63°C).
Step 6: Broil for a Caramelized Finish
- For a slightly caramelized glaze, switch to the broiler setting for the last 2 minutes of cooking. Keep a close eye on the salmon to prevent burning.
Step 7: Garnish and Serve
- Remove the salmon from the oven and let it rest for 2–3 minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley, lemon wedges, or toasted sesame seeds, and serve warm.
