Maryland Crab Fries

  • Author: Amelia
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Fries:

  • 4 medium russet potatoes (about 1.5 lbs)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp Old Bay seasoning (plus extra for garnish)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

For the Optional Cheesy Crab Dip:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup lump crab meat (fresh or canned)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

For Serving:

  • Lemon wedges
  • Extra Old Bay seasoning for sprinkling

Instructions

1. Prepare the Fries

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) or set your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) if using one.
  2. Wash and scrub the potatoes thoroughly. You can peel them or leave the skin on, depending on your preference.
  3. Cut the potatoes into evenly sized fries, about 1/4-inch thick.
  4. Soak the potato slices in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch, which helps them crisp up during cooking.
  5. Drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.

2. Season and Cook the Fries

  1. In a large mixing bowl, toss the potato slices with olive oil, Old Bay seasoning, garlic powder, and black pepper until evenly coated.
  2. Spread the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or in your air fryer basket. Avoid overcrowding for even cooking.
  3. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the fries are golden brown and crispy. For air-fried fries, cook for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket occasionally.

3. Prepare the Cheesy Crab Dip (Optional)

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, mayonnaise, and sour cream. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  2. Gently fold in the lump crab meat, shredded cheddar cheese, Old Bay seasoning, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, and parsley (if using).
  3. Transfer the mixture to an oven-safe dish and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes, or until hot and bubbly. Alternatively, heat it in a microwave-safe dish for 2-3 minutes until warmed through.

4. Assemble and Serve

  1. Remove the fries from the oven or air fryer and sprinkle with additional Old Bay seasoning to taste.
  2. Transfer the fries to a serving platter and garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.
  3. Serve the fries with the cheesy crab dip on the side for dipping, or drizzle the dip over the fries for a more decadent presentation. Add lemon wedges for a bright, tangy touch.
