Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups rice bubbles (or Rice Krispies cereal)
- 4 cups mini marshmallows
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pink or red food coloring (gel works best)
- White chocolate or pink icing (for decoration)
- Cooking spray or butter, for greasing your hands
Instructions
- Prepare the ingredients: Measure out the rice bubbles and set them aside. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or grease it lightly to prevent sticking.
- Melt the butter and marshmallows: In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the mini marshmallows and stir constantly until fully melted and smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Color the mixture: Add a few drops of pink or red food coloring to the marshmallow mixture, stirring until you reach the desired “brainy” color. You can add more food coloring for a deeper color if you like.
- Mix in the rice bubbles: Remove the pot from the heat and quickly stir in the rice bubbles until they are well coated with the marshmallow mixture.
- Shape the brains: Lightly grease your hands with cooking spray or butter. Take handfuls of the rice bubble mixture and shape them into oval brain-like mounds. Use your fingers to create a central indentation down the middle and press gently to form ridges on the surface, giving it a realistic “brain” appearance. Place the brains on the prepared baking sheet.
- Decorate: Once the “brains” have cooled and set (about 15–20 minutes), drizzle them with melted white chocolate or pink icing to create a veiny effect.
- Serve: Let the decorations set for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your spooky marshmallow brains!
