  • Author: Amelia
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Salisbury Steak Patties:

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 or 85/15 for best flavor)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (plain or Italian-style)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for cooking)

For the Gravy:

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce (optional, for deeper flavor)

For Garnish (Optional):

  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Cracked black pepper

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Salisbury Steak Patties

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, Dijon mustard, and milk.
  2. Mix gently with your hands or a spoon until just combined—avoid overmixing, as it can make the patties tough.
  3. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into an oval patty, about ½ inch thick.
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil.
  5. Once the oil is hot, add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, until they develop a nice brown crust.
  6. Transfer the patties to a plate and set aside.

Step 2: Make the Gravy

  1. In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and melt the butter.
  2. Add the chopped onions and cook for about 3-4 minutes until softened and translucent.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Sprinkle in the flour and stir continuously for 1-2 minutes to create a roux, which will help thicken the gravy.
  5. Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring to prevent lumps.
  6. Add the Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, black pepper, and soy sauce. Stir well to combine.
  7. Simmer the gravy for about 5 minutes until it thickens.

Step 3: Combine Everything

  1. Return the cooked Salisbury steaks to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy.
  2. Spoon some of the gravy over the patties and let them simmer for 5 more minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  3. Garnish with fresh parsley and cracked black pepper before serving.

Step 4: Serve and Enjoy

Serve your Salisbury steak hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered egg noodles. Enjoy this hearty and satisfying meal with a side of roasted vegetables or a fresh green salad.
